GOP House Leadership Is Pushing Elise Stefanik to Take Liz Cheney’s Place
Details
On Wednesday the GOP ousted Congresswoman Liz Cheney from her leadership position. The meeting may have taken ten minutes before the voice vote was taken. Cheney had been the House Republican Conference Chair – third in line in GOP leadership in the US House, but her vote to impeach President Trump in January and her continued attacks against him had raised the ire of many House members.
Unfortunately, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy has endorsed liberal Congresswoman Elise Stefanik of New York to take Cheney’s place. McCarthy’s tactic is to rush the vote — possibly as early as Friday morning — giving little time for other House members to consider running for the leadership position. McCarthy’s has even denied a delay requested by the conservative House Freedom Caucus.
Just how liberal is Stefanik? Here’s how she voted on a few important bills:
- Voted against defunding Planned Parenthood in Medicaid;
- voted for the Equality Act which would add ‘sexual orientation” and “gender identity’ to the 1964 Civil Rights Act and eviscerate the Religious Freedom Restoration Act;
- voted against President Trump’s Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017;
- voted for a bill to force America to stay in the Paris Climate Accord;
- supports permanent status for so-called “Dreamers”;
- voted to override President Trump’s funding of the wall.
A very bad message will be sent to the grassroots if Elsie Stefanik is placed in the number three GOP leadership position in the US House!
Action Steps
Contact Pennsylvania’s GOP Congressmen and ask them to not support Elise Stefanik to replace Liz Cheney as the next House Republican Conference Chair.
