AFA of PA ACTION ALERT

January 3, 2011

Issues  (check corresponding number in ‘Details’ and ‘Action’ Sections)

1.)     Incoming State House, State Senate and Congress

2.)    Sign our Petition for a Marriage Protection Amendment

Details

1.)    On the afternoon of January 4th all members of the State House and State Senate will take their oath of office (Article II, Section 4 of the PA Constitution).  The Governor-elect and Lieutenant Governor-elect do not take their oath of office until January 18th. The State House and State Senate convenes on January 19th.  The new Congress will be sworn in on Wednesday January 5thClick here for more details on that event by listening to our Two-Minute Weekly Update.

2.)    Representative Daryl Metcalfe (R-Cranberry Twp.) will be introducing a strong Marriage Protection Amendment which not only defines marriage as between one man and one woman, but prohibits the counterfeit “marriage” of civil unions.  This is necessary because in other states where civil unions have been legalized homosexual activists have successfully pushed for same-sex marriage.  A one sentence amendment simply protects the word “marriage,” but it does not protect the institution of marriage.

Action Steps

1.)     Pray for the new Pennsylvania General Assembly and the new US Congress.  Both legislative bodies will face many challenges in the next two years.  It is essential that they see the connection between social issues and economic issues.  How many hundreds of millions of tax dollars are spent each year on issues which deal with teen pregnancies, abortion, sexually transmitted diseases, single parent families and the resulting poverty?
