AFA of PA ACTION ALERT

August 27, 2013

Issue

1.)  How Has Your Congressman Voted This Session?

2.)  Benghazi Scandal — Need for a Select Committee

Details

1.)  The AFA of PA has waded through more than 400 votes from the  first session of the 113th Congress and pulled out 18 important votes to let you know how your Congressman voted on them.

2.)  On September 11, 2012 something terribly wrong took place in Benghazi, Libya which resulted in the deaths of four Americans.  We still don’t know the truth about what happened, who knew what and when, were US weapons being funneled through Libya to Syria, where are the 400 surface to air missiles which are still missing, why were dozens of CIA agents in Benghazi that night, were orders given to stand down and not come to the aid of those in the US Consulate?  One thing we do know is the attack was NOT the result of a video and those in the embassy recognized it as an organized attack and not a spontaneous event.  We had forces only a few short hours away, yet it took over 20 hours for any of our people to get there after the attack.  Americans do not leave Americans behind and that is exactly what happened in Benghazi on September 11, 2012!  What we need is a select committee with full subpoena power.

All it would take is for Republican leadership in the House to say “We are forming a special House select committee on Benghazi.”  That has not happened and on January  18th Congressman Frank Wolf introduced H. Res. 36  calling for the creation of “a select committee to investigate and report on the attack on the United States consulate in Benghazi, Libya.”  It currently has 163 co-sponsors, but It remains in committee and the Republican leadership does not seem inclined to take action.  So . . . Congressman Steve Stockman (R-TX) has started a discharge petition to force Speaker of the House John Boehner to bring the bill to the floor of the House for a vote.  If 218 Congressmen sign onto the discharge petition, it would force Boehner’s hand.

Action Steps

1.)  Click here  to go to our “Contact Congress” page, click on your Congressman’s name and then at the top of that page click on his or her voting record to access that information

2.)  Pennsylvania Congressmen Lou Barletta, Charles Dent, Mike Fitzpatrick, Jim Gerlach, Tom Marino, Patrick Meehan, Tim Murphy, Scott Perry, Joe Pitts, Keith Rothfus, Bill Shuster and Glenn, “GT” Thompson  have signed onto H. Res. 36, but that’s not good enough!  They and the other six PA Congressmen need to sign onto the discharge petition to force Speaker Boehner to bring the bill to the floor.  Go to our ACTION CENTER to contact your Congressman.  Ambassador Christopher Stevens, communications specialist Sean Smith, and former Navy SEALs Tyrone Woods and Glen Doherty deserve to have the truth uncovered.
