Ask Allegheny County Council to Approve Patriotic Display – Including “In God We Trust”

Details

On July 1, 2014, Allegheny County Councilwoman, Sue Means introduced a resolution to have our National Motto, “In God We Trust,” displayed in the Allegheny County Council Chambers, Resolution #8376-14.   This resolution  proposes the posting of the National Motto along with the Bill of Rights.

The anti-motto forces have been speaking out at council meetings, and sending letters and e-mails. If council members do not hear from residents of Allegheny County who are in support of displaying our national motto, they likely will vote no.

Council members need to hear from county residents by this Thursday, August 28 at 4 pm; members will be debating the resolution to display the National motto during the Government Reform Committee meeting. Check the end of this alert for a list of all council members.

Remind council members that it is perfectly legal to display the National Motto. Congress passed a bipartisan resolution encouraging the display of the National Motto in all government buildings and the US Supreme Court has upheld the right to display it in public buildings. It is currently displayed in the US Capitol, the state Capitol in Harrisburg and many county courthouses within the Commonwealth.   Why not Allegheny County? To vote in favor of Resolution #8376-14 is a patriotic vote!

Action Steps
