Issue:The Importance of the Bill of Rights
Too many Americans do not know the history behind the Bill of Rights nor the importance those first ten amendments to the Constitution play in our lives daily. Too many Americans have not even read this historic document, so cannot correctly respond when confronted with a question about ‘rights.’ Even when teaching about the Bill of Rights, how many schools are actually presenting the text of this document or are they simply presenting an interpretation of them found in textbooks?
December 15th will be the 227th anniversary of the ratification of the Bill of Rights. On that day Virginia became the last state necessary to ratify this document which was designed to protect Americans from an over-reaching federal government.
A case that immediately comes to mind is that of Philip Zodhiates, a Mennonite who began serving a federal prison sentence in Kentucky one week ago. Were his rights denied? He is accused of participating in an international kidnapping by driving former lesbian Lisa Miller and her daughter Isabella to the Canadian border in 2009. There they caught a plane to Nicaragua and remain in hiding. As Philip points out, Lisa had full custody of Isabella at the time and they had no travel restrictions. He regards himself the target of a politically-motivated prosecution that served to advance the Obama administration’s LGBT agenda. If you’ve never heard of Lisa Miller’s conversion to Christianity and her efforts to protect her biological daughter from her former lesbian partner, click here for the details.
- Consider sending Philip a note or Christmas card to let him know he has not been forgotten:
