Today is the National Day of Prayer

Details

On April 17, 1952 a bill was passed stating:  “The President shall set aside and proclaim a suitable day each year, other than a Sunday, as a National Day of Prayer, on which the people of the United States may turn to God in prayer and meditation at churches, in groups, and as individuals.”  That is found in Section 119 of Public Law 82-324.

On May 5, 1988 Ronald Reagan signs into law Public Law 100-307 the designation of the first Thursday in May as the annual observance for the National Day of Prayer.

No one can deny our nation needs prayer!  We should pray for our nation daily, but especially today set aside some time for fervent prayer for our nation, our elected officials, our schools, our churches, our families, our children.   This year’s National Day of Prayer theme verse is found at the end of James 5:16 “ . . . The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.”   Do we believe that?

Action Steps

Today pray as if the future depends upon it – because it does!  As the forces of evil continue to work to destroy the family, our culture, our children, our nation, we must pray and stand against it, with God’s help.  Psalm 11:3 says, “If the foundations are destroyed, what can the righteous do?”   The righteous must pray that the foundations not be destroyed.  Find a local National Day of Prayer event to participate in.  You can also watch the National Day of Prayer Gathering at 8:00 p.m. on their website  here   or GOD TV, NRB TV, CBN News.
