Governor Tom Wolf and former Governors Dick Thornburgh, Tom Ridge, Mark Schweiker, Ed Rendell, and Tom Corbett have signed onto a letter to the State House encouraging members to support “merit selection.” This process lets the governor choose PA judges which must be confirmed by the State Senate rather than have the people vote.

The GOP chairmen of the House and Senate Appropriations committees on Jan. 26 sent a letter to the Office of Auditor General requesting a review of all spending by the Wolf administration between the start of the 2015-16 fiscal year, on July 1, and Wolf’s Dec. 29 partial budget veto.

Delaware Valley University has announced the hiring of its first female president- an “out lesbian.” She will live with her “spouse” in the president’s house on campus.

As insurance companies continue to experience losses due to Obamacare, which result in increased premiums to customers, the PA Insurance Dept has stepped in to cap some of those increases. As a result, Highmark has announced it will cut fees paid to providers.

Obama administration has lifted the immigrant entry ban on three more STDs -chancroid, granuloma inguinale, lymphogranuloma venereum. In 2009 the ban on immigrants with HIV was lifted. Only syphilis, gonorrhea, tuberculosis, and leprosy remain on the short list of “communicable diseases of public health significance” that makes an alien ineligible to enter US.
