Church is Right in Ending Boy Scout Charter It’s Held for 93 Years
(Harrisburg) — A Delaware County church has made the right decision in dropping its 93 year charter with the Boy Scouts. The Boy Scouts’ May 23rd decision to end its long standing ban on boys who identify as homosexual, made less than a year after the policy had been reaffirmed as the best policy, forces churches to confront the immorality the Boy Scouts now embrace. The American Family Association of Pennsylvania (AFA of PA), supports the decision of the Aldan Union Church and has contacted them affirming that support.
“The Boy Scouts’ decision shows their leadership has come to the wrong conclusion and determined that engaging in homosexual acts are moral and right. They will convey that wrong message to all the Scouts in their ranks. Aldan Union Church is right in opening their doors for those who identify as homosexual to worship and for their children to attend Bible camp and pre-school and after school programs. Christians are called to present the truth of the Gospel, but not to embrace sin. The Aldan Union Church is right in backing away from embracing the immorality that the Boy Scouts have decided to embrace,” noted Diane Gramley, president of the AFA of PA.
The Boy Scouts understand the dangers of allowing those with same-sex attraction to participate in the Scouts, but are ignoring their own history. In the mid 1920s they began cross-referencing all adult volunteers against a list of “ineligible volunteers” maintained at its national headquarters. Within the Boy Scouts these became known as the Perversion Files. As recently as January 2013, a Santa Barbara, California Superior Court judge ordered the Boy Scouts to release records dating back to 1991. In October 2012, more than 1,200 files from 1965 to 1985 were made public by order of the Oregon Supreme Court. Those files included incidences from Pennsylvania. The newly released files will number more than 4,000. Studies have found a link between homosexuality and pedophilia. A study in the Journal of Sex Research noted that “… the proportion of sex offenders against male children among homosexual men is substantially larger than the proportion of sex offenders against female children among heterosexual men … the development of pedophilia is more closely linked with homosexuality than with heterosexuality.”
“Bible-believing churches must sever their ties with the Boy Scouts, even as they must sever their ties with the pro-abortion, pro-homosexual Girl Scouts. There are better alternatives available. Aldan Union Church is leading by example; other churches should follow their example on this issue,” Gramley concluded.
