Advocacy Group Applauds PA School Boards Association Decision to Leave National Organization

(Harrisburg) —   On September 29, 2021 the president and Interim Executive Director and CEO of the National School Boards Association (NSBA) sent a letter to President Joe Biden calling on him to get the Department of Justice and FBI involved saying, “immediate assistance is required to protect our students, school board members, and educators who are susceptible to acts of violence affecting interstate commerce because of threats to their districts, families, and personal safety.”  The American Family Association of Pennsylvania (AFA of PA), a statewide advocacy organization, was appalled that the writers of the letter called concerned parents and taxpayers domestic terrorist who were committing hate crimes against school board members. Our hope was that this view was not shared by other state affiliates of the NSBA nor elected school board members and we were thrilled that the PA School Boards Association (PSBA) has cut ties with the NSBA.

“This announcement that the PSBA Governing Board voted unanimously to withdraw from the NSBA was like a breath of fresh air in the toxic environment that was created by the September 29th letter from the national organization.  The letter stated that it was sent on behalf of the state organizations and the more than 90,000 school board members across the country, but the PSBA confirmed that they were not consulted before the letter was sent to President Biden.  The AFA of PA applauds their quick response to this attack on the rights of parents,” remarked Diane Gramley, president of the AFA of PA.

Other state school boards associations have also acknowledged they were not consulted before the letter was sent and some have indicated they will stop paying NSBA dues.

“Our hope is that other state school boards associations will follow the example set by the PSBA and leave the national organization.  It is clear that they are no longer independent as it has been revealed that many of the leaders of the NSBA have strong ties to Democrats, the National Education Association has recently begun donating to the NSBA and the president of the nation’s second largest teachers’ union, the American Federation of Teachers, fully endorses the DOJ’s move to crack down on concerned parents.  So . . . teachers’ unions and Democrats are behind the letter!  This move by the NSBA, teachers’ unions, the DOJ and the FBI clearly show that they are not concerned about the First Amendment rights of parents and simply want no complaints from parents about the indoctrination of their children,” concluded Gramley.
