Chuck Hagel’s Confirmation Advances to Full Senate
Details
Yesterday afternoon by a vote of 14-11 the Senate Armed Services Committee voted to advance Chuck Hagel to the full Senate for a vote on his confirmation to be the next Secretary of Defense. Senator Harry Reid plans on bringing Hagel’s name to the floor of the Senate for a vote by the end of the week.
As you may recall some of the objections to his confirmation include the following:
1.) He is one of six directors of the “Global Zero US Nuclear Policy Commission”
2.) on the board of George Soros-funded Ploughshares Fund (contributes to groups that criticize US foreign policy and the military; also contributes to the Connect US Fund which promotes one global government, calls for massive cuts in the US military budget so that money can be spent on “sustainable energy”)
3.) sits on the board of the main financial backer of a group urging the US to join the UN’s International Criminal Court.
4.) Supports the UN Law of the Sea Treaty (LOST)

Remember this next vote is the last one to decide if Hagel will replace Leon Panetta as the Secretary of Defense. The Constitution only gives the Senate “advice and consent” authority over Presidential nominees. The US House is not involved in the process.
