Do You Know Someone Who Needs to Register to Vote?
The last day to register to vote or change parties is March 28th. Also, if you have changed your name or address since the last election, the deadline to make these changes with your county’s voter registration office is also March 28th. Are you going to be out of town on April 26th? You’ll need to apply for an absentee ballot.
Just how dedicated are we in protecting our representative republic? Here’s a story from the past: In 1844 in Switzerland County, Ind., ailing farmer Freeman Clark had his sons carry him from his bed to the county seat to vote for David Kelso, a Democrat, for state senator. Kelso was a lawyer who had once defended Clark on a murder charge and won an acquittal. Clark voted, then died on the way home. Kelso won by one vote. When the new state Senate convened post-election, it had a majority of Democrats – by one.
