Many have wondered why the social media platform MeWe has not been targeted by opponents of free speech like Parler and Gab have been. Well, turns out they are not totally into free speech. This from reclaimthenet.org : “Many have flocked to MeWe, a privacy-focused platform that resembles Facebook, after the recent vast censorship from Big Tech giants. However, the platform doesn’t appear to be happy to be seen as a free speech platform, insisting it is “not an anything goes site like Parler or Gab.”
More from Reclaimthenet: “MeWe has a strong Terms of Service designed to keep out lawbreakers, haters, bullies, harassment, violence inciters,” a spokesperson for the company said when asked how the platform would handle moderation in light of the influx of users. The company also said that it was “adding new tools to help out moderators” and even adding more people to its Trust and Safety Team.”
While it is totally acceptable to keep out lawbreakers and violence inciters, how are they defining “haters, bullies, harassment”? What definitions are they using? According to the Southern Poverty Law Center, saying real marriage is only between one man one woman or that homosexuality and trangenderism are lifestyle choices or that therapists should be permitted to use talk therapy for minors who are confused about their sexuality or gender are hateful and bullying.
