As you know last week the United States Supreme Court (SCOTUS) struck down Section 3 of the federal Defense of Marriage Act . That action in itself shows the danger of simply having a law in place instead of a constitutional amendment. After last Wednesday morning’s SCOTUS decision, State Representative Brian Sims, the first open homosexual to be elected to the State House, rose to praise the Court’s decision only to be silenced by some of his fellow House members. All this is in keeping with established rules.
The following day Representative Daryl Metcalfe, lead sponsor of Pennsylvania’s Marriage Protection Amendment, was interviewed by WHYY FM and explained why he had objected to Sims’ comments:
“I did not believe that as a member of that body that I should allow someone to make comments such as he was preparing to make that ultimately were just open rebellion against what the word of God has said, what God has said, and just open rebellion against God’s law.”
For those comments Brian Sims wants Metcalfe reprimanded and he has also said he will co-sponsor a bill which legalizes same-sex “marriage. ”
