This Proposed Policy Change Sets the Country Back 50 Years
Details
June 23, 2022 marked the 50th anniversary of the signing of Title IX of the Education Amendments. It says in part, “no person … shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal financial assistance.”
Its purpose was to give females equal access to sports, educational opportunities, etc. Those who voted for Title IX back in 1972 knew what a female was (unlike the newest Justice on the US Supreme Court!).
Since 1975, federal regulations from the Department of Education (USDOE), the federal agency charged with enforcing Title IX, have authorized schools to provide “separate toilet, locker room, and shower facilities on the basis of sex,” so long as the “facilities provided for students of one sex [are] comparable to such facilities provided for students of the other sex.”
Now this administration is working to undermine the original intent of Title IX by changing the USDOE rules that define Title IX. How? Biden wants the meaning of “sex” in Title IX to cover “sexual orientation,” “gender identity,” and “pregnancy or related conditions.” They are taking public comment and want to hear from you concerning this matter!
