Governor Corbett is Wrong to Support Discriminatory Bills

(Harrisburg) —   Recently Governor Tom Corbett announced his support of HB/SB 300  which would add “sexual orientation and gender identity or expression” to the PA Human Relations Act.   The American Family Association of Pennsylvania (AFA of PA) has emailed the Governor asking him to reconsider his support of these discriminatory bills.

“Governor Corbett is wrong in his support of these bills.  Apparently he has not done a thorough investigation into the ramifications of such laws.  Almost daily we read of those with deeply held religious beliefs being hauled before Human Relations Commissions because they refuse to photograph or bake cakes for homosexual “weddings.   Complaints have been filed against other Christian business owners who have refused to make T-shirts for “gay pride” parades.  Others have been threatened with eviction for refusing to bake cupcakes for a homosexual group.  We are told none of these things will happen in Pennsylvania.  We were also told when the hate crimes bill was passed in 2002 that it was all about thugs and hooligans and blood on the streets, but instead we saw eleven Christians in Philadelphia arrested and charged with a hate crime for reading Scripture and singing choruses at a homosexual event.  Christians in Pennsylvania can expect the same type double speak, if HB or SB 300 pass,” declared Diane Gramley, President of the AFA of PA.

Information sent to the Governor includes the following:

1.)  Evergreen State College in Olympia, WA has said it will not prevent a 45-year-old man, who identifies as a woman, from lounging naked in a women’s locker room, in an area frequented by girls as young as six.

2.)  Dr. Mary Ann Stark,  associate professor of nursing at Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Michigan, encountered a man who identifies as a woman using the shower and restroom in a local health club.

3.)  Sweet Cakes by Melissa in Gresham, Oregon was forced to close after being hounded by homosexual activists because of their refusal to bake a “wedding” cake for a lesbian couple earlier this year.

4.)  Elane’s Photography in Albuquerque, New Mexico was fined $6000 for refusing to photograph a lesbian commitment ceremony.

5.)  A Portland, OR bar has been fined $400,000 because the owner asked transgender men dressed like women to stop meeting at his bar because they were using the women’s restroom and running off business.

“We also pointed out that in June 2011 Equality PA, which just praised Corbett today, acknowledged that these laws are also meant to allow men who think they are women the “right” to use the women’s restroom.   Additionally, these type laws have been used by judges in Vermont, Massachusetts, New Jersey and other states to force the legalization of same-sex “marriage” or civil unions – which led to homosexual “marriage,”  Gramley further noted.
