Homosexual Activists Target Somerset County!

Details

On July 31st, homosexual activist John DeBartola asked the Somerset County Commissioners to consider extending domestic partner benefits to the same-sex partners of county employees,  passing an “anti-discrimination” ordinance — in reality a homosexual special rights ordinance — and creating a human relations commission to enforce the ordinance.  DeBartola is a Johnstown resident and the president of the Keystone Alliance/Gaylife Newsletter.

(NOTE:  Information included in the linked article about Allegheny County is incorrect.  They passed an “anti-discrimination” ordinance in 2009 and as a result of that passage, they extended domestic partner benefits to the same-sex partners of Allegheny County employees in March.)

The Commissioners have said they will issue a formal response within 30 days.  (UPDATE:  Commissioner Joe Betta has informed the AFA of PA that he will oppose such an ordinance.)

DeBartola had been in correspondence with the Commissioners for over a month wanting to know their stance on ‘gay’ marriage.

As the homosexual group Equality PA has acknowledged, the passage of such “anti-discrimination” ordinances will be used to place pressure on our legislators in Harrisburg to added “actual or perceived sexual orientation and gender identity.”  Equality PA acknowledged in June 2011 that these ordinances are all “about the bathroom” and allowing people to use the facilities they feel most comfortable with!

In addition to the bathroom issue, just look at Philadelphia!  Because of ‘sexual orientation’ language in Philadelphia’s ordinance they have worked since 2002 to evict the Cradle of Liberty Scout Council from the headquarters they built and have maintained since 1929 on property the 1928 City Council gave them free use of in perpetuity.  Why?  Simply because the Boy Scouts ban homosexual leaders and members.  Also, in Philadelphia “gender identity” language forced a KMart to allow a man who thinks he is a woman to use the women’s fitting room.

In other parts of the country where such ordinances have passed, small business owners have been fined or faced eviction because of their strongly held religious beliefs that engaging in homosexual acts is sinful.

Action Steps

1.)  Contact the Commissioners and warn them of the dangers of such ordinances.  These ordinances extend special rights because they are based on the sexual activity in which someone engages and not on immutable characteristics like race or ethnicity.

Email addresses for the Commissioners:

Pamela Tokar-Ickes  pti@co.somerset.pa.us

John Vatavuk  vatavukj@co.somerset.pa.us

Joe Betta   bettaj@co.somerset.pa.us  (UPDATE:  Thank Commissioner Betta for his assurances that he will oppose a homosexual special rights ordinance) or call at (814) 445-1400.

2.)  Consider attending the next commissioners’ meeting.  They normally meet on the second and fourth Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. in the Commissioners’ Board Room.
