1.) Now They Want to Control Our Food!
2.) The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women – Sounds Good, But . . .
3.) Update on Judicial Nominees
Details
1.) On Wednesday the Senate voted for cloture on SB 510 – “FDA Food Safety Modernization Act.” Is the federal government taking advantage of the few well-publicized incidences of salmonella poisoning and outbreaks of e-coli to push for further regulations and intrusion into our food industry? And guess who will pay for these additional inspections and regulations – you and me – the consumer. A cloture vote was held on November 17th and by a vote of 74 to 25 with one “Not Voting” the Senate voted for cloture. Click here for more information about and the cost of this outrageous bill. You’ll never guess how Pennsylvania’s two United States Senators voted! They both voted ‘yea.’ Click here for the roll call vote. The House passed this bill in July 2009, so the Senate is the only thing standing in the way. On Thursday there was an attempt to allay some of the fears of small farmers – but as we all know, once the government gets involved, all it takes is just a slight change in the law for them to get fully what they want.
2.) We all would like to see discrimination cease not only against women, but also men and children. However this treaty, which President Carter signed 31 years ago, wants to end discrimination of women as defined by the United Nations. It could lead to mandated federal funding of abortion and the violation of the conscience rights of pro-life health professionals. Click here for more information.
3.) Senator Harry Reid has told the Senate that there may be weekend sessions to handle the judicial and executive nominees. Several judicial nominees were voted out of the Senate Judiciary Committee on Thursday. The nominee for Second Circuit Robert Chatnigy has been held over. Click here for more details on this outrageous nomination. Click here for the entire list of nominees.
Action Steps
Contact Senator Arlen Specter and Bob Casey, Jr.
1.) Ask them to vote ‘no’ on SB 510.
2.) Ask them to vote ‘no’ on CEDAW
3.) Ask Senator Specter, who is a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, to vote ‘No’ on the nomination of Robert Chatnigy for the Second Circuit Court of Appeals. Chatnigy is best known for the “Roadside Strangler” case.
